Christmas Oratorio, Farnham

Bach: Christmas Oratorio
St. Andrew’s Church
Farnham: Surrey
The Brandenburg Baroque Soloists

Of course the highlight I was expecting in this Christmas Oratorio was David Staff’s playing in the final Chorus: “Lxiv. Choral: Nun Seid Ihr Wohl Gerochen” which really did steal the show, however another of the highlights of this concert was hearing Pip Eastop and Tom Kane play horn in “Xlii. Choral: Jesus Richte Mein Beginnen” - incredible playing!

I thoroughly enjoyed playing in a section with Staffy, Heidi and Tommy (on Timps) and especially loved playing third trumpet in “IX. Choral: Ach mein herzliebes Jesulein” - a fantastic moment for all the section where the top two trumpets are in the clarino register (like angels) and the bottom trumpet and timpanist are in the principal register and represent war and earth.

It was a fantastic experience and a great privilege to play with such fine musicians.
