Handel - Messiah - Canterbury Cathedral

I played first trumpet in Handel’s Messiah (HWV 56) in the candlelit quire of Canterbury Cathedral on Saturday 23 November 2024. The performance featured the soloists Alexandra Kidgell (soprano), James Hall (alto), Nicholas Todd (tenor), and Robert Rice (bass), as well as an excellent choir comprising the lay clerks and female choristers of Canterbury Cathedral. The ensemble was conducted by Dr David Newsholme (Director of Music).

It was great to be back in Canterbury following a memorable (and exceptionally cold) performance last year. This time Canterbury was very blustery (so much so that the cathedral grounds were temporarily closed to visitors) but still bustling and becoming increasingly festive. This marked the beginning of the D major season: with lots to look forward to before Christmas!
