I played first trumpet in Handel’s Coronation Anthems in Southwell Minster on Sunday 27th August 2023. The performance was part of Southwell Music Festival, and it was conducted by the festival's founder and artistic director, Marcus Farnsworth. The performance also featured a Concerto Grosso by Handel, and his Dixit Domimus, after the interval.

Our section comprised Russell Gilmour, Will Russell, Graham South and Keith Price (timpani). It was also great to play alongside the festival chorus—the Coronation Anthems never fail to send a shiver down my spine.

There was a wonderful festival atmosphere, as ever, and it was great to see so many friends, old and new. I performed Bach’s B Minor Mass at Southwell in 2018 and Handel’s Israel in Egypt in 2019. It was great to be back after missing some years due to Proms, the pandemic, or quarantine!
