Handel - Messiah - Exeter Cathedral

My final Messiah of the year (and last performance in the UK before Christmas) took place in Exeter Cathedral on Sunday 10 December 2023. However, the 'D major marathon' is far from over, and I’m looking forward to four performances of Bach's Christmas Oratorio, in Belgium and France with Vox Luminis, and a recording of music by Cimarosa with Les Talens Lyriques, in Paris, before Christmas itself.

I performed Handel’s Messiah with Devon Baroque and the Exeter Cathedral Choir, under the direction of Timothy Noon. I had the great pleasure of playing The Trumpet Shall Sound with the bass soloist Tim Mirfin. I always enjoy this afternoon Messiah performance, as it showcases the wonderful young musicians of Exeter Cathedral Choir (well done to all involved), and it takes place amid the hustle and bustle of Exeter’s Christmas market, which surrounds the cathedral. It was great to be back doing this concert: I had to miss last year as I was doing a tour of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio in Holland
