This wasn’t my first time performing in King’s Lynn; I performed here with the OAE in 2015 and 2018. I also most recently performed this piece in Ipswich in 2023. 

On this occasion I took a spare instrument so that a trumpet player (called Josh), who was also playing electric guitar in a rock band called The Gliders, could play on a natural trumpet in the section with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. We found 5 minutes to guide him through a short section of the part, which featured overlapping trumpet fanfares and he seemed to really enjoy the experience of playing it with the orchestra.
