The Medieval Manuscript the 'Chronicles of Mann and Sudreys' mentions various locations, including the Isle of Man, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and even places as far away as Norway and Brittany.
Russell Gilmour (trumpet) and David Kilgallon (organ) use melodies from these countries and they merge and fuse these ideas together with their own to create unique compositions for trumpet and organ. The idea behind their musical collaboration is to explore traditional music from these countries and to adapt the music, interpret it and explore it. Chronicles' musical format is slightly unusual in that it combines trumpet and organ - not the instruments you may initially associate with folk music - but it is an approach that has sparked a lot of interest.
Their limited edition EP "Prologue" is a sample of things to come, as the production of a full album is underway. The full album will be Chronicles' musical impression of the Isle of Man's influences and rich history - as documented in the Chronicles of Mann.

Handel - Messiah - Schola Cantorum - Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School

I performed Handel’s ‘Messiah’ at St. Gabriel’s Church in Pimlico on Tuesday 6th of December 2016. The orchestra ‘Spiritato!’ and the Schola Cantorum of the Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School was conducted by Scott Price, Director of Music of the Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School.
The boys of the Schola Cantorum sang all of the arias, recitatives and choruses in Handel’s ‘Messiah' themselves, with the soloists (trebles, altos, tenors and basses) stepping forward from the ranks of the choir. The standard of the performance was excellent. These boys are evidently already very experienced performers.
The Schola Cantorum has well-established links with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and the choir has also performed for several film soundtracks, including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. They have worked with well-known film music composers such as Danny Eflman, James Horner and Hans Zimmer. Many congratulations to the Schola on their performance of Handel's Messiah this evening, esp the 16 soloists from the choir. There is short video (longer than the one below!) on our Facebook Page of some moments from last week's performance of Handels Messiah. pic.twitter.com/qLhDaFUM3w— Vaughan Music (@CVMSMusic) December 12, 2016
Director of Music, Scott Price, asked the players of 'Spiritato!' to show the students the various period instruments in use. He asked the boys to raise their hand if they played the modern equivalent of that instrument - there were a number of very interested young trumpet players in the choir and many other instrumentalists too.
