Cimarosa - L’Olimpiade - Les Talens Lyriques - Vienna

I performed Domenico Cimarosa’s L’Olimpiade (1784) with Christophe Rousset’s Les Talens Lyriques in Halle E of the Theater an der Wien in Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier on Sunday 31 March 2024.

This concert performance of the opera took place just a few days before our staged opera production began—we will be giving six performances of Salieri’s opera Cublai gran kan de' Tartari (1788) in Halle E in April.

It was a pleasure to revisit Cimarosa’s L’Olimpiade after recording it in Paris in December 2023, and it was fantastic to receive my copy of the as-yet-unreleased CD of this music just before the Vienna performance. It was particularly exciting to hear the live version of that most remarkable soprano and oboe aria, sung by Rocío Pérez and played by Martin Stadler.

I look forward to listening to the Cimarosa CD when I get home from Vienna (which has been a very photogenic place to spend Easter), but first, we have six Salieri opera performances to do, and lots of finishing touches to add to my upcoming book, ‘Just’ Natural Trumpet.
