King's Lynn - Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment - 'Water Cycle'

On Friday 1st of May, I performed with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment in a concert and education workshop at the Corn Exchange in King’s Lynn, Norfolk. I played 2nd trumpet in Handel’s Coronation Anthem - ‘Zadok the Priest’. My part in the performance was very small, as I was only involved in this performance of ‘Zadok the Priest’. The rest of the programme included round-singing, accompanied recorder pieces and performances of pieces that had been devised by the students. My small involvement meant that I was able to listen and observe the project as an audience member for the most part.

This brilliant outreach project brought together a local choir - the Thetford Singers, local school children and the associated community of parents and associated friends. The event was part of the OAE's ‘Water Cycle’ project and it was an impressive and well-oiled show. The clever musical arrangements and the dynamic teaching kept the school children musically afloat at all times. The orchestra supported the singers and young instrumentalists and the rehearsals seamlessly flowed into the performances. (Apologies for the water-related puns there).

I liked the fact that the orchestra have obviously adapted this programme to be local to wherever they go. Thank you and congratulations to all who organised this outreach programme.
